Healthy relationships

#LovesMeOrNot

#LovesMeOrNot is our young people panel's campaign around healthy and unhealthy relationships.

Our young people panel recognise that if children and young people are worried about something they would discuss it with their friends as opposed to teachers or other adults in their life.

They thought unhealthy relationships were something that young people needed support at recognising and decided to launch their campaign with the support of the Kent and Medway Domestic Abuse Strategy Group.

About healthy relationships

Sometimes relationships start well but as time goes on they can begin to change.

Some behaviour in relationships are not acceptable and can become abusive. This can happen to anyone so it’s important to be able to recognise the signs or a healthy or unhealthy relationship.

In a healthy relationship, you should:

  • both be able to see your friends and do your own things
  • listen to each other
  • see each other as equals
  • talk openly with each other
  • both feel happy, loved, safe and secure

In a unhealthy relationship, someone may:

  • act jealous or angry when you speak to others
  • try to control what you wear
  • check up constantly, asking who you’re with and where you are
  • force you into sexual acts you’re not ready for or don’t want to do
  • threaten to send private pictures to their friends

If you’re worried about a friend’s relationship you should speak to an adult that you trust such as a teacher who will try to help you or your friend.
