New Safeguarding Arrangements

Medway Council, Kent Police and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have published plans for the launch of the Medway Safeguarding Children Partnership (MSCP). These new arrangements are being published in response to the Children and Social Work Act 2017 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018.

The Children and Social Work Act 2017 introduced a new duty to be placed on three agencies, namely the Local Authority, the Chief Officer of Police and Clinical Commissioning Group (referred to as Safeguarding Partners), to make arrangements for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in the area. The three safeguarding partners had until 29 June 2019 to publish their arrangements.

Planning for these new arrangements has been taking place since the publication of Working Together (2018) in July 2018 and the MSCP will replace the current Medway Safeguarding Children on 2 September 2019.

The MSCB will continue to be in place until 2 September 2019 when the MSCP is launched.

The MSCP will continue to provide safeguarding procedures, local policies and guidance, multi-agency training and will undertake local child safeguarding practice reviews into serious incidents and multi-agency case file audits. A website for the MSCP will be launched in September 2019 but the current information on the MSCB website will be included on the new website.

We will be contacting all the relevant agencies who are listed in the document over the next few months and further information about the new arrangements including terms of reference for sub groups will be published soon.
